About The .327 Federal Magnum Ammo is a cartridge that was designed in 2007 with the intention to create the power of a .357 Magnum Ammo in a six-shot, small revolvers, whose cylinders otherwise would only hold five shots. The .327 Federal Magnum Ammo has even been used in revolvers with a maximum capacity of seven shots or more. The .327 Federal Magnum Ammo was an attempt to improve the .32 H&H Magnum Ammo and therefore was based on its casing. The .327 Federal Magnum Ammo was given a 1/8-inch longer cartridge, with the strengthened web at the base, thicker walls of the casing, and different metallurgy and heat-treatment, all of which allowed it to be loaded to higher pressure levels than its predecessors. The overall length of the .327 Federal Magnum Ammo is 37mm, and the bullet diameter measures 7.9mm. Designed by Federal and Ruger in 2007 to provide the power of a .357 Magnum in a compact revolver holding 6 rounds instead of 5. They lengthened the case of the .32 H&R Magnum by ⅛”, strengthened the web and case to allow double the pressure of the .32 H&R Magnum.

Usage
The .327 Federal Magnum is designed for concealed carry and personal defense. With similar ballistics to the .357 Magnum, it can also be used for homestead defense and makes a suitable choice for wilderness carry if large predators are not present. Henry offers a lever action rifle, making the .327 Federal Magnum a dual use cartridge with option to pair a revolver and a long arm in the same cartridge.


The .327 Federal Magnum offers similar ballistics to the old .32-20 Winchester rifle cartridge but achieves these results from short barreled revolvers.

The .327 Federal Magnum is a rimmed, straight walled cartridge with an overall length of 1.47” and a case capacity of 19 grains (H2O). It fires a .312” diameter bullet and uses small magnum pistol primers or small rifle primers with a max pressure of 45,000 PSI. *Issue: Some manufacturers are suggesting small rifle primers and some suggest small magnum pistol primers. Ammunition options offer cast lead, full metal jacket, hollow points or soft points in weights ranging from 86-115 grains. Standard rifling twist rate is 1:16”.
