The ammunition market faced unprecedented shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic, with 9mm rounds reaching prices of $0.90 each and 12-gauge slugs exceeding $3. The crisis was fueled by panic buying, hoarding, and a lack of production capacity due to material shortages. Today, stabilization has largely been achieved thanks to new manufacturers like First Breach stepping in to meet demand.

Founded in 2022 by Jeffrey Low and his son Jordan, First Breach operates out of the historic Fairchild Republic aviation plant in Hagerstown, Maryland. This 75,000-square-foot facility, once a cornerstone of American military aviation, now produces high-quality ammunition for civilians, law enforcement, and military markets. Notable for its WWII and Cold War contributions—including the production of A-10 Warthogs—the plant features unique assets like a nuclear bunker repurposed as a ballistic testing range.

First Breach manufactures most components in-house, including casings and lead cores. While primers and gunpowder are currently sourced externally, the company is set to begin in-house primer production within six months. Current offerings include 5.56mm, .223, and 9mm FMJ rounds, with plans to expand into .308 and 7.62x39. Their ammunition has already gained popularity among competition shooters and law enforcement for its reliability.</p

With 25 skilled workers and plans to hire 30 more, First Breach exemplifies domestic manufacturing success. The company also aims to supply the Israel Defense Forces and the U.S. military. For more information, visit their website at FirstBreach.com.
