The PSL54 is a semi-automatic gas-operated rifle that runs on a long-stroke gas piston that can best be described as an enlarged AK47 action. It is imported by Century Arms International and was named “Dragunov” only for its general resemblance to the real Dragunov, however it shares no common parts. The PSL has a 24.4 inch barrel topped with iron sights that go to 1200m.

The Dragunov is chambered in 7.62x54mmR and feeds from 10-round double-feed detachable box magazines. 5 round magazines do exist for this rifle which is a benefit to hunters in arenas with capacity limits. While the magazines look like Dragunov mags, the PSL54 uses proprietary mags that are not interchangeable with those from an actual Dragunov.

Measuring 45.3 inches long with an unloaded weight of 9.5 pounds WITH the scope attached, the PSL offers decent medium to long range precision and firepower without being unnecessarily heavy. While the PSL is definitely on the lighter side of the scale for DMRs, its length does add difficulty while maneuvering through dense brush or other close-quarter environments.

The PSL54 looks and feels like a really long AKM. The control layout is identical to the Romanian WASR-10 and has an enlarged pistol grip integrated into a thumbhole stock. The PSL54 is made with a stamped and bulged receiver and a forged barrel trunion. The stocks can be found as solid wood, however they are normally cut from laminated wood, as is the case with the handguards. The PSL, in the right hands, is said to deliver accuracy as high as 2-MOA, an impressive feat for an AKM pattern rifle.
