Ruger 57 Features

The Ruger 57 is a polymer-framed semi-automatic pistol that operates on a unique short-recoil action; as there is no locking mechanism in the action, the barrel and slide will move backwards together for a fraction of an inch until the bullet has left the barrel.  After that, the slide will continue to move back to complete its cycle.  This pistol includes a trigger that has a single-action pull, a near-5 inch barrel topped with target style sights, and an accessory rail on the front of the frame for mounting a light.

Ruger 57 Ballistics

Ruger 57 Capacity

The Ruger 57, as its name implies, is chambered in 5.7x28mm and feeds from a double-stack, double-feed magazine with a standard capacity of 20 rounds.  If you live in a state with capacity restrictions, fear not because 10 round magazines are available.

Ruger 57 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The 5.7 cartridge is physically longer than most other pistol calibers with an overall length that is only surpassed by a few of the Magnum cartridges.  Because of this, the grip of the Ruger 57 is very long from front to back, but the width is thinner than most pistols at less than 1.2 inches.  The height of the grip allows users to have a full grip of the gun even with gloves on, and if you’re left handed, fear not because the controls are ambidextrous and the magazine release can easily be switched between the left and right sides.

Ruger 57 Fit & Finish

The Ruger 57 needs to remain oiled.  If you’re going to carry this pistol, it would be smart to wipe down the outside of the slide every day as standard humidity can cause the slide to rust pretty easily.  This is only for the black-slide models, though.  The stainless steel or colored models are much more resistant to environmental damage due to their coatings.

Fit and Finish

Ruger 57 Concealability

Concealability
Measuring 8.65 inches long and 5.6 inches tall, the Ruger 57 is not a gun that you can realistically conceal.  Even an oversized T-shirt wouldn’t do a good job of hiding this.  The best way to carry this pistol would be in an open-carry setup as the target sights would easily dig into your side and the grip texturing could rub you raw if it were to be concealed.
